Unconditional superconvergent analysis of a new mixed finite element method for Ginzburg–Landau equation

In this article, unconditional superconvergent analysis of a linearized fully discrete mixed finite element method is presented for a class of Ginzburg–Landau equation based on the bilinear element and zero‐order Nédélec's element pair (Q₁₁/Q₀₁ × Q₁₀). First, a time‐discrete system is introduced to split the error into temporal error and spatial error, and the corresponding error estimates are deduced rigorously. Second, the unconditional superclose and optimal estimate of order O(h² + τ) for u in H¹‐norm and p = ?u in L²‐norm are derived respectively without the restrictions on the ratio between h and τ, where h is the subdivision parameter and τ, the time step. Third, the global superconvergent results are obtained by interpolated postprocessing technique. Finally, some numerical results are carried out to confirm the theoretical analysis.     

Adini‐Q1‐P3 FEM for general elastic multi‐structure problems

An Adini‐Q₁‐P₃ finite element method is introduced to solve general elastic multi‐structure problems, where displacements on bodies, longitudinal displacements on plates, longitudinal displacements and rotational angles on rods are discretized by conforming linear (bilinear or trilinear) elements, and transverse displacements on plates and rods are discretized by Adini elements and Hermite elements of third order, respectively. The unique solvability and optimal error estimates in the energy norm are established for the discrete method, whose numerical performance is illustrated by some numerical examples. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Uniform estimates of Gronwall type

We discuss a Gronwall-type lemma depending on a small parameter ε>0, based on an integral inequality that predicts blow-up in finite time of the involved unknown function for any fixed ε. The result permits to establish uniform estimates even if the function itself depends on ε.

A modification of Cauchy's method for quadratic equations

The plan of this paper is to obtain one-point iterative methods with any R-order of convergence, when they are applied to approximate solutions of quadratic equations in Banach spaces. To do this, we consider real Cauchy's method and, under certain natural modifications, it is extended to Banach spaces. Some applications are also provided.     

A Phragmén–Lindelöf alternative result for the Navier–Stokes equations for steady compressible viscous flow

In this paper, the authors consider the Navier–Stokes equations for steady compressible viscous flow in three-dimensional cylindrical domain. A differential inequality for appropriate energy associated with the solutions of the Navier–Stokes isentropic flow in semi-infinite pipe is derived, from which the authors show a Phragmén–Lindelöf alternative result, i.e. the solutions for steady compressible viscous N–S flow problem either grow or decay exponentially as the distance from the entry section tends to infinity. In the decay case, the authors indicate how to bound explicitly the total energy in terms of data.

Generalized Hörmander's conditions, commutators and weights

We present a general framework to deal with commutators of singular integral operators with BMO functions. Hörmander type conditions associated with Young functions are assumed on the kernels. Coifman type estimates, weighted norm inequalities and two-weight estimates are considered. We give applications to homogeneous singular integrals, Fourier multipliers and one-sided operators.     

Singular integral operators in Morrey spaces and interior regularity of solutions to systems of linear PDE’s

We obtain boundedness in Morrey spaces of singular integral operators with Calderón-Zygmund type kernel of mixed homogeneity. These estimates are used for the study of the interior regularity of the solutions of linear elliptic/parabolic systems. The proved Poincaré-type inequality permits to describe the Hölder, Morrey, and BMO regularity of the lower-order derivatives of the solutions.
